Pacific Crest Trail with
Oregon Equestrian Trail
July 15, 2023
Trail work to support the national scenic Pacific Crest Trail, that spans from the Mexican border to Canada, thousands of hikers use it annually.
This new mission for Source One Serenity is to support the Roseburg Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trail. OET has adopted a section of this famous trail, located in the backcountry of the Cascades in southwest Oregon. The work will be focused on the trails leading to the PCT that are of high importance for PCT hikers who use them for accessing campgrounds, local lakes, and resupply locations. These trails need to be maintained so that PCT hikers do not get lost, and can be easily accessed in case of search and rescue missions. There have been several search and rescue missions in the past few years using these access trails. The work will happen in one day but there is a great option to camp at the Kelsay Valley Campground the night before and/or the night after.
The trails are within the Umpqua National Forest which is within the ancestral homelands of Native people of the Umpqua, Southern Molalla, Yoncalla, and Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians who have called this forest home since before Mt. Mazama erupted to form Crater Lake 7,000 years ago.
During this project, you will reap the benefits of the healing power of nature with awe-inspiring views while connecting with the local community of rural Douglas County, Oregon who will be there to lead the work. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This one is going to be awesome!
Meeting time: 8 am on July 15th, 2023 at Kelsay Valley Campground, Umpqua National Forest, Oregon.
Bring your own gloves, food and water, and we provide other tools and PPE.
